What's in a name?

Alright, so I have to post this mostly just for myself, but for anyone else out there who is confused.

You pronounce it "bees and sereeez" Repeat that three times.

I don't know why we didn't choose a more pronounceable name, at least for my. My co-collaborater (who just had a darling baby boy, btw!!! yay!!!) speaks French. I don't. So I sit here and call it "etsy" which is in no way the actual name for my shop. I should start to say it right. It means "kisses and cherries," and since I suppose I need to have an awesome story for having that as a name, here goes.

I have a cherry tree in my back yard which, year in and year out, produces millions of cherries, I'm pretty sure. They are gorgeous, and absolutely tasty, but two harvests ago, about half of our picked cherries went bad. I was the lucky parent who got to go through four boxes of half-bad cherries, picking out the rotten ones. Oh, and I was 8 months pregnant. So I sat at the counter with my feet swelling off my legs and my stomach lurching (pregnant ladies, is this not true? Smell is twice as powerful a sense when you're expecting) and swatting fruit flies from my arms. Ew, I tell you what. But, I finally finished the job, and, amazingly, actually helped pick cherries this year, despite my vow that I'd never look at one again. So I guess that's the tie to cherries, and we'll say the kisses come from cute kids who've been eating the cherries or something.

But really, here's the reason for the name. The name was chosen because it was cute. Because it is, and if anyone has a problem with it, tough.

I'm baaaack....

Oy. It has been a long time, and I realize that while it seems like I'm inactive in the blogging world, I am still alive. And mostly well. :)

The wisdom tooth thing went well, although right after, my 14-month old daughter got a weird stomach bug, so I spent three weeks changing sick-o diapers and doing laundry. And I am super lazy, apparently, because I never post pictures of new things that I'm making. Sheesh! I should be fired.

Anyway, so I am starting to sell earrings and other jewelry, too. I keep having to tell myself that it's not for me, it's to sell, but I sometimes have a hard time believing myself. Needless to say, everything I make is something I would wear. So there.

Pictures hopefully soon!

More!

I am slowly but surely putting up everything I have so far, but I don't think I'll get it all done before...

I GET MY WISDOM TEETH OUT.

yowch. Yes, that is a word. I'm getting them out tomorrow, so I won't be doing much (not that me doing anything has actually changed the outcome on etsy... oh, well.) Anyway, I'm participating in a study, so I am actually getting paid to get my teeth out, and most of that will, I am sure, end up paying for more supplies. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to comment.

I want to know if you think it would be beneficial to have a video of these things on the purses so you can see what they look like in action? All two of you... :) Let me know!

It's UP!!!

Check it out!

I'm so excited for this!!! I know I haven't put up more than just three, but really, I have some laundry that I have to do. Now that I have the hang of posting things, there will be more up probably tonight (I hope!)

That's all, folks!!!

Purse snaps

On the purse:

The Beginning.

I have a purse. It's a gorgeous purse, and I love it to death. It is green, which is my favorite color, hence the fact that it is my favorite purse. Actually, I have another green purse which is pretty awesome, but I can't wear it over my shoulder and, let's face it, with two kids, I need something that doesn't use my hands. In fact, if anyone else has a spare hand or two out there... *cough* well, that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, said awesome purse has one major fault: it is a two-strap. Any woman who has ever had two straps on her purse will know what I am talking about when I say that the non-dominant strap is CONSTANTLY falling down! It doesn't matter how wide the shoulder is, it always seems (and I have done multiple observations at Wal-Mart and it's always the same) that one purse strap is hanging off. Women all over the world are reaching over to pull it back up again. I'm sure there's some sort of statistic about how often a purse strap is being repositioned, but I'm not motivated enough to find it. Needless to say, pulling purse straps up takes another hand, and I just don't have that kind of luxury.

Enter sister and co-mastermind of this enterprise. On our way to a baby shower some 30 minutes away, she and I were talking about this problem when I said "I should just make some sort of a snap to keep them together! Sheesh!"

*pause*

"Actually, that wouldn't be such a bad idea," sister says.

And, let's face it, it's not.

So, here we are a few weeks later, about ready to introduce these to the world of etsy. I'm sure some of my other stuff will end up on our site, but this is where I got the gumption to open a shop. I hope you like them!
